Remarks:
Mig is a real ‘head turner’ with a varnished hull and cuddy, fabulous counter stern and red high aspect gunter rig. Her provenance is impeccable – commissioned to be built by Ernest Woods in 1937, she was sold in 1938 to a member of the Broom family for his 17th birthday and who kept her until 1999 when she was sold to the current owner.
Mig is one of a class of similar classic cuddy half-deckers all built by Ernest Woods who took the inspiration for their long fixed keel from his time working earlier on similar craft on the Great Lakes in Canada. There are thought to be 4 other similar boats still in existence. Oriole and Demoiselle (both wintered at Buttifants), Nirvana and Cirrus. Mig, unlike the others, has never been fitted with a bowsprit nor a wing engine. Collectively, the boats are known colloquially as ‘Tizzy Wizzy’s’ but much of the information about this has been lost to history.
She has always been professionally maintained since she was built and has been looked after by Robin and Patrick Richardson for the last few years, who will attest to her fine condition. The boat is totally original (a testament to the quality of the mahogany sourced by the builder Ernest Woods) and the only work required in her long life has been a new mast and the area below the tabernacle including the garboard plank replaced by Colin Buttifant in 1999. She has never been modified, thus retaining her charm and authenticity. Now reluctantly for sale owing to her owners advancing years and change of pace into motorboats.
