1906 Walter Woods Broads Sailing Cruiser

• The boat has a large cockpit with seating and lockers to either side. To starboard there is a 2 burner/grill cooker built into one locker, opposite which is a stainless steel sink unit with manually pumped cold water built into another. In the cabin, which has a lifting cabin top that gives a maximum of 6ft headroom aft, there is a single settee berth to either side (can be converted to a double). Going forward, there is a sea-toilet to starboard and provision for a third berth, extending under the foredeck, if required. The boat, which has comparatively low freeboard, is fitted with unusual toe rails/grab handles which would greatly assist the recovery of anyone unfortunate enough to go overboard. Her decks are finished in Treadmaster non-slip whilst her cabin top is covered in Trakmark.

Designed and built by Walter Woods, the boat is thought to have been copied from the American “Cat Boats” of the period. She has a fairly short, shallow fin keel and is in consequence fairly agile when it comes to tacking on Broadland rivers or other restricted waters. She is unusual in having a hard-chine which means that, when slightly heeled, she effectively has a 26ft long keel helping her to keep close up to the wind. The combination of tacking agility, and ability to sail well upwind has meant that she has achieved considerable racing success. She appears to be in excellent overall condition, though her interior varnish-work is in need of renewing. She has been in the same ownership for 31 years and has clearly been much loved.
