Remarks:
With her modest draught Privateer may navigate anywhere on The Broads, and in racing mode has taken numerous firsts at Broadland regattas, and is an Open Series winner at Wroxham. She is easily race-crewed by three or even two people and under her reduced cruising rig may even be sailed single-handed, which makes her eminently suitable as a family craft.
Over the past 5 or so years, substantial amounts of hull planking has been replaced and a restoration of the rear of the craft carried out (at a combined cost well in excess of the current asking price).
Recently the interior of the double cabin layout has been fully sanded back and varnished although there are now other areas where she will need some cosmetic re-varnishing.
This much loved boat is now sadly for sale due to a change in commitments and has been priced to sell to encourage a new owner to come forward and look after this wonderful classic that’s full of history.
Historical Notes: This unique and historic Broads classic is the largest survivor of a small handful of yachts designed on the metacentric principle by Braithwaite for Chumley and Hawke, resulting in a low wetted area and easily driven hull.
Privateer was originally intended as a 2 berth racing cruiser, but completed as a double cabin 4 berth for hire, when the commissioning owner failed to complete the purchase. This lucky compromise results in a rare combination of good race performance, and excellent cruising comforts.
