Remarks:

Usually built in wood, Skerry Cruisers are constructed according to the Square Metre Rule. Originating in Sweden, they were historically most popular in the Baltic and the word Skärgårdskryssare (Schärenkreuzer in German, Saaristoristeilijä in Finnish) translates to archipelago cruiser.

Uffa Fox, acclaimed yacht designer, wrote of the Skerry Cruiser in the 1930’s that “Of all the fast cruisers, the 30 Square Meters are probably the best” and “The Skerry Cruisers with their liveliness and buoyant hulls are a type that appeal to many people… for their rules produce a fast type of craft that gives a great deal of pleasure to those sailing it, and also at the same time they produce a very sturdy vessel, one that is both strong and seaworthy.”

More recently, the SK30 received further praise from Classic Boat magazine who wrote “There is no mistaking the graceful lines of a 30 Square Meter. With its long, lean hull, generous overhangs and lofty, slim-line Bermudan rig, it is arguably one of the world’s most striking classes, and certainly commands attention on the water.”

This Skerry Cruiser is understood to have previously been owned by a Swedish actor. She was moved to her current location some 12 or so years ago, following which a very enthusiastic restoration (AKA labour of love!) commenced. The mahogany hull was stripped back to bare wood, seams filled with sikaflex, and repainted with quality marine paint (believed still to be structurally sound). Plans were made for a new keel stepped rig (the original mast having been cabin stepped) with donor parts and sails obtained. However sadly work eventually came to a halt. Initially this beautiful yacht was cocooned in a framed tarpaulin tent, but she has of late been moved outside to facilitate access for road transportation away from the site and a good new home is now seriously sought where her restoration will finally be completed. With her current, somewhat spartan, racing orientated interior layout, she would ideally suit someone looking to day sail and/or race, but with the addition of a few home comforts, she could equally be suited to cruising. Either way, this project offers a very unusual opportunity and one that will undoubtedly prove to be a very rewarding experience. With her very attractive lines and renowned performance, this yacht will surely turn heads wherever she goes! A true classic!

LOCATION: An easy train journey from Stockholm which offers cheap flights to numerous other European cities. Removal/delivery will be at the purchaser’s cost, but the substantial launching trolley (included in sale) that this yacht currently sits on will facilitate easy loading on to a low loader lorry.

ADDITIONAL INVENTORY: Berth cushions (believed unused), cockpit plywood sections (removed and retained to be used as templates), plus some other miscellaneous fittings and and items could be made available to the purchaser if required, but they would need to be collected from Normandy, France at the purchaser’s cost.

PLEASE NOTE: Photos 1-16 show the vessel between c.2010 and c.2019. Photos 17-23 show the vessel more recently and since she has been uncovered and moved ready for collection (all done by the vendor for a previous buyer). We are informed that the ‘green’ will easily wash off.

NOTE:

The existing owner has put in a lot of time, effort and money to try and save this boat, but unfortunately age has crept up on him, so he is unable to finish the project. He is now seeking a good home for this incredibly attractive yacht and would of course be willing to accept any donations/’thank-you’s’ as an appreciation of his efforts.
