Remarks:
Purchased by her current owner 3 years ago after always having wanted to own a White Boat, Longtailed Blue has been much enjoyed and is in good condition with her paintwork having recently been renewed and the antifouling done ready for the season ahead.
The sails are in a good condition and will provide good service for a few more years. She comes with an all over cover and a good road trailer.
Her owners comment:
Owned by Norfolk marine artist and Author Patrick Boswell for the last 3 seasons and has been used for family sailing and for various painting trips. He is author of Boswell’s Broadland. She is a good stable boat and has brought much pleasure over the last three years. A reluctant sale due to age of owner (82) and his wish to see her continue to be enjoyed by new owners on the Broads.
Overall condition is good for her age and has been freshly painted for the coming season. She sails extremely well in all conditions.
Class Notes:
Designed to thrill with her pace, give pleasure with her grace, and provide a spacious and safe environment for all of the family to enjoy, the Yare & Bure One Design (AKA Yare & Bure OD, YBOD or “White Boat”, the latter due to her painted topsides) is an extremely versatile day sailer which appeals to both novices and experienced sailors alike. Designed specifically for Norfolk Broads sailing, Ernest Woods built 69 boats, the first in 1908, and his nephew, Herbert, went on to build a another 24 boats in wood. Further boats have since been build in GRP, and the class now numbers over 137. With an active fleet still racing locally when originally designed over 100 years ago is testament to the fact that the “White Boat” is a true Broads classic!
The following is a quote from Classic Boat Magazine: “Under sail, the YBOD is lively, yet responsive – her easily-driven hull slipping sweetly through the water. Her powerful rig can make her a challenge to sail in strong, gusty conditions, yet with a couple of reefs in and an additional crew-member on board, she will still prove reassuringly stable, with her semi-balanced rudder making her a relatively light touch on the helm.”
