CLASS NOTES: Linton Hope, naval architect to the King of Belgium, designed the Broads One Design at the request of members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club in 1900 with the aim of creating a yacht that was both capable of sailing inshore off Lowestoft and also suited to sailing on the Broads, and the first class race is recorded as having been held on Whit Monday 1901 at Oulton Broad. 31 boats were built in wood over a period of 38 years, with more being to added to the class since 1987 constructed in GRP. The class now numbers 80 in total and remains very active today, with the design having proven itself to be both very safe and capable at sea, and very competitive when raced against other Broads classes.
