Remarks:

Achievement was built in the winter of 1932/33 for Albert Ames as a 25′ racing boat. She was launched for Thurne regatta and raced with the owner and two professional hands. A successful first season saw winnings covering her build and she went on to be a long term established member of the racing fleet. With a little forewarning, she was hidden in a barn during the war, and was then lengthened to 29′ on deck and fitted with an enormous (reported to be nearly 80′) timber Bermudan rig. This collapsed towards the end of the season and she has since competed with a more modest 55′ – originally timber, but latterly aluminium mast. She was purchased by the current owner in 1996 and is now laid up ashore awaiting her next custodian!

PRICE SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE!

Owner’s Remarks

It has been a privilege to be a part of Achievement’s history and she has been in our ownership since 1996. Her name is on almost every yacht racing trophy on the Broadland racing circuit and we have enjoyed many happy days racing and socializing with the River Cruiser Class fleet. We purchased Achievement (instead of a house) before we were married, and our young children have grown up on board and on nearby shores, however their interests have diverged and it is no longer feasible to spend time together as a family if we continue to own and race Achievement – and she is a boat who truly deserves to be out racing. Achievement is now one of the smallest boats in the “fast fleet” but is usually found with the bigger yachts on the start line and holds her position to the first mark. In light airs it is not a surprise for her to lead the entire fleet from start to finish. We hope to find a new owner for Achievement who will continue to race and maintain her as she approaches her centenary.

PLEASE NOTE: The engine, stove, etc. shown under the vessel in the photos of her ashore are not included in the sale.
