This traditional Broads yacht with her brand new sails, brand new cockpit cover and petrol inboard engine is now looking for a new custodian due to her owner’s ill health.

Her owner writes:

Our beautiful traditional Broads sailing cruiser has been part of the family since she was bought from Herbert Woods in 1969. Prior to this, she had been one of their hire fleet and was called Twilight IV. She was reputedly the best of her class and my father purchased her as soon as she came out of hire. He registered her as ‘Joedey’ in November 1969 and immediately gave the yacht her distinctive red hull.

Joedey was his pride and joy for many years. My father, Derrick Carter, was a Skipper with the well-known ‘Lady Yacht Club’ (which originated at Herbert Woods Boatyard, Potter Heigham) and Joedey could always be seen ‘dressed overall’ at the annual October Regatta at Thurne. She has featured in many photographs of the Broads and has been much loved and admired over the years.

When my father became ill, we ‘adopted’ Joedey, so that she remained part of the family. She has been well cared for and sailed regularly until the summer of 2022, when due to illness, my partner was no longer able to use her. He was also unable to complete her refurbishment, so she does need some interior varnishing and general TLC. Because of this, Joedey is ‘sold as seen’.

Joedey’s wooden interior is warm and welcoming and she truly represents the best of a generation of traditional Broads sailing yachts. It is my dearest wish that she goes to someone who will love her as much as we have and will enjoy many more years of pleasure sailing her on the Norfolk Broads.
