EQUIPMENT: Internal: The boat has a good-sized self-draining cockpit with wheel – and emergency – steering plus seating to either side, a large aft deck and a newly fitted GRP spray hood. The companionway steps lead into the saloon, with the navigation station immediately to port, the galley aft to port and the main saloon forward. The navigation station has a chart table, storage for charts and books, plus most of the navigation equipment. In total this includes: Vetus GPS, depth sounder (plus repeater to cockpit), Navtex PRO, Sony short wave receiver, speed and distance log, (and trailing log), Sestral Major compass, laptop PC for weather reports, fax, etc., VHF, clock and barometer, Kannad EPIRB. The galley, aft of the navigation area, provides an LVM Supercool chest fridge, 2 stainless steel sinks (with mixer tap, with hot from an immersion heater), Spinflo stainless steel cooker (4 burners, grill and oven – all with flame failure safety devices), 2 worktops, storage cupboards and lockers. There is also limited access to the vessel’s engine, for checking oil level, etc. (for major work the partition between the galley and the engine room can be removed in a few minutes). The stern cabin leads off the galley and provides a settee, double berth, and wardrobe, hatches in deckhead and also to cockpit, plus lockers and bookshelves port and starboard. The saloon has a U-shaped dinette to port opposite which is a single settee berth, a wet locker and a catalytic space heater. The vessel’s workshop, plus access to the engine room leads off aft, to starboard. The workshop has a bench, tool store, remote greaser, batteries, main breakers, fuel valves, etc. and provides access to the engine. Going forward from the main saloon, there is a passageway leading to the forecabin. To starboard in this area, there is a desktop with the laptop PC with a wardrobe and lockers whilst opposite is the heads. This has a sea-toilet, hand basin with mixer tap, shower and storage locker. The forecabin has 2 full-length V-berths (convert into a double), both with lockers under. In the bow, forward of a steel bulkhead, there is a chain locker with 250 feet of 1/2 inch chain plus chain and warp for the spare anchor. Headroom throughout the boat is good, the maximum being 6′ 3″. She is amply supplied with electric lighting – plus glazed deck hatches and through-hull windows – and her décor consists of white deckheads, teak bulkheads, iroko timbers and beading. Upholstery is in beige linen. External: The boat is fitted with stainless steel pulpit, pushpit (with teak handrail), stanchions and a boarding ladder. She carries a generator which runs in a purpose built locker on deck plus solar charging panels. Ground gear includes a 60lb Bruce anchor, 60 lb CQR anchor plus 12mm chain. Safety equipment includes: liferaft, life-jackets, lifebuoys, two dinghies (one GRP, the other an Avon), fire extinguishers and flares.

REMARKS: Her owner comments: “Warm when in the north, and cool in the south, with her spacious decks the parties are always on Fai Tira. Easily handled by two, she has an easy motion at sea and is good at anchor, or moored, with little rolling thanks to her lead ballast”. Epoxied in and out, all her gear – apart from her engine and one or two minor items – was new in 1996. Part-exchange for a smaller sailing vessel such as a Rival 38/41, etc. a possibility. It is understood the owner would be prepared – within reason – to refund the airfare of her eventual buyer. Survey report and build photos on file. Out of water repaint/antifoul/replacement of anodes autumn 2001.

OUR OPINION: A superbly presented and equipped, light and airy vessel – an ideal live-aboard/cruising boat. She will take you anywhere you are competent to take her – and in style and comfort. Topsail Marine are Bruce Roberts’ sole UK agents in consequence of which we see a fair number of his boats: we feel this vessel to be an excellent example of the model and we have no hesitation in recommending viewing. If you’re looking for a vessel to do that voyage of a lifetime, look no further: Fai Tira could be just the lady for you.
