Remarks:

The Marie-L is a unique boat with bags of character. The hull is reminiscent of a small ship and the numerous bronze  portholes add to its charm. Lifeboat conversions are rarely seen on the Norfolk broads, and they contrast with the fibre glass cruisers. The best feature of the Marie-L is the electric conversion. The electric motor and controller have had very little use. The motor has two bearings and four brushes which can be replaced easily after many hours of use. The original diesel engine was noisy, smelly and required expensive maintenance. The Broads Authority annual toll is cheaper for electric vessels.

The boat needs full restoration and really needs to be lifted out of the water. It needs painting and something like an epoxy based coating would minimise future maintenance. As the rear cabin needs to be replaced there is an opportunity to make it larger by extending it over the battery storage area. Alternatively the forward steel cabin could be extended back by removing the tongue and groove plank wall where the sink is situated. A portable toilet is onboard. This could be positioned in the battery storage area. A door could be fitted to create a toilet compartment.

This is an unusual vessel that would suit someone with practical skills looking for a project. The Boat Safety Scheme certificate has now expired.

This vessel is sold “as is”.
